Original US M1873 Entrenching Tool Bayonet

This American entrenching tool features a broad, trowel-shaped steel blade showing a dark grey patina and light pitting. The hilt consists of a socket attachment and a wooden handle insert, paired with a leather scabbard having a brass belt hanger. Introduced in 1873, this model served as a dual-purpose bayonet and entrenching tool for the United States Army. Issued during the Indian Wars, the trowel bayonet allowed infantrymen to scrape out defensive positions in the field. The blade is stamped "U.S." near the socket interface. The wooden insert is firmly seated, and the leather scabbard features a brass-mounted belt loop with an embossed "US" emblem.
