This German dirk features a straight, double-edged steel blade showing minor age staining. The hilt is composed of a turned ebony grip and a brass crossguard, paired with a matching brass scabbard featuring two suspension rings. Manufactured in Solingen during the 1840s, this dirk was produced by the firm Schnitzler & Kirschbaum. These weapons were carried by naval officers and cadets as status symbols during the mid-19th century in Europe. The ricasso is stamped with the S&K maker mark. The ebony grip shows a dark finish and remains tight, and the brass scabbard features simple engravings and fits the blade snugly.
