This Japanese Navy dress sword features a straight steel blade showing a bright finish. The brass hilt has a knuckle guard, wire-wrapped shagreen grip, and cherry blossom pommel, paired with a leather scabbard featuring brass mounts. Introduced in 1914, this pattern was the standard ceremonial sidearm for officers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Carried through the Second World War, the sword served as an emblem of authority, representing the modern naval officer corps. The guard is stamped with cherry blossom motifs and naval anchors. The shagreen grip is intact, and the wire wrap remains secure. The leather scabbard shows minor wear appropriate to its age.
