British M1856 Mk1 Drummers Short Sword

This British short sword features a straight steel blade showing a dark patina and light pitting. The hilt is made of cast brass with a ribbed grip and crossguard, preserved without its scabbard. Introduced in 1856, this Pattern 1856 Mk1 short sword was issued to drummers and buglers of the British Army. This piece was carried by the 5th Battalion, London Fusiliers, serving as a defensive sidearm. The brass guard is stamped with the "5 LF" unit marking. The ribbed grip is solid and firmly attached, and the blade shows age-related discoloration.
