This European short sword features a heavy, straight steel blade with a sawback spine and single fuller, showing a grey age patina. The hilt is composed of a solid cast brass grip with a crossguard. It is preserved without its scabbard. Dating to the 19th century, this sawback short sword was utilized by German or Swiss pioneer and artillery units. Designed as a dual-purpose tool, it served as a defensive sidearm and a utility saw for cutting wood and clearing defensive obstacles. The sawback spine features well-defined, sharp teeth. The solid brass hilt has a ribbed grip pattern and shows a natural dark patina. The blade remains structurally sound, with no loose components.
