French Model 1866 Chassepot Sword Bayonet
Very rare Antique French Model 1866 Chassepot Sword Bayonet, complete with its original scabbard and leather frog.
The Model 1866 Chassepot bayonet is one of the most iconic French edged weapons of the 19th century, originally issued with the Chassepot rifle and used during the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871) and into the early 20th century.
The full-length yataghan-style blade is in good antique condition, showing honest age-related wear, patina, and light surface marks consistent with service use. No major damage or cracks observed. Markings are consistent with period production.
The metal scabbard is original to the period and fits the bayonet properly. It shows typical wear from age and use, with a stable surface and no structural issues.
The bayonet is accompanied by a leather frog, which is an uncommon and desirable addition. The leather shows age but remains intact and functional, adding to the overall completeness and collectible value of the set.
