German WWI-WWII Sabre Handle and Guard

This partial hilt assembly from a military sabre consists of a brass stirrup guard, backstrap, and a ribbed wooden core. The brass displays a natural dark gold patina. Originating from a German army sabre, this assembly was used during the late Imperial era or the interwar period. Such sabres were standard dress sidearms for artillery and cavalry units. The wooden core shows wear and minor cracks, with the original leather wrap and wire binding missing. The metal guard remains structurally sound and fits tightly to the backstrap.
