This naval or personal dirk features a straight steel blade, a cast bronze crossguard, and a carved ebony grip. The leather sheath has matching bronze fittings and shows age wear. Used as a sidearm by naval officers or gentlemen during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the dirk was a compact alternative to the full-length sword. It is a scarce example of historical maritime cutlery. The ebony grip is shaped with traditional checkering, showing a dark, smooth finish with minimal wear. The blade has a gray patina with minor spots of pitting near the tip.
