This ornate civil service cutlass features a straight steel blade decorated with detailed hunting etchings, a gilded brass hilt with a clam-shell guard, and staghorn grips. The leather-covered scabbard has gilded brass mounts. Worn by forestry officials and members of official hunting clubs in Imperial Germany, this cutlass was a symbol of office and professional status during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The blade is finely etched on both sides with forest scenes and wildlife motifs, remaining bright and clear. The staghorn grip scales are secured by brass rivets shaped like acorns, and the hilt is tight.
