This infantry officer's sword features a curved steel blade with etched decoration, a gilded brass Gothic basket guard, and a shagreen-wrapped grip. The leather-covered scabbard has gilded brass mounts. Produced during the reign of King William IV, this 1822 pattern sword was carried by British infantry officers. The Gothic hilt design with the royal cypher represents classic British military styling. The blade is etched with the royal cypher of William IV and floral motifs, showing a grey patina. The shagreen grip wrap is complete and secured by copper wire.
