German WWI Gewehr 98 Ersatz Bayonet

This combat bayonet features a straight steel blade, a one-piece pressed steel hilt with integral grip, and a steel scabbard. The metal components show a dark gray patinated finish. Produced during the First World War to meet urgent demand, Ersatz (substitute) bayonets were manufactured by private machine shops. They were issued to German troops serving on the Western Front. The hilt retains traces of its original green painted finish, showing typical field wear. The blade remains in good condition, and the steel scabbard shows no deep dents or structural compromises.
