Antique Imperial German WWI Damascus Navy Officer’s Lion Head Sword w/ Scabbard

This is an impressive Imperial German WWI Navy officer’s lion-head sword, featuring a true Damascus (pattern-welded) blade and its scabbard. High-grade private-purchase examples such as this were produced for senior naval officers and are prized today for their craftsmanship and ornate detailing.

The Damascus blade shows its distinctive layered pattern throughout, with finely executed etched motifs. The lion-head pommel retains excellent detail, including original glass or jeweled eyes. The guard and backstrap display ornate decorations with traces of original gilt finish. The scabbard is complete the sheath has plasticity at the bottom and fits the sword properly, showing age-appropriate patina and wear.

Condition: Light wear, patina, minor marks, and expected aging consistent with a WWI-era officer’s sword. The blade remains straight, structurally sound, and displays the Damascus pattern beautifully.

A rare and highly collectible Imperial German naval officer’s sword—especially desirable due to the combination of the lion-head hilt and genuine Damascus blade.
