US Mexican War Model 1840 Staff Officer Sword
Original American militia staff officer’s sword dating to the Mexican War / pre-Civil War period (circa 1840s). Manufactured by Horstmann, one of the most respected U.S. military sword makers of the 19th century.
The sword features etched blade with period decorative motifs typical of militia and staff officer swords of this era. Gilt brass hilt with classical styling, consistent with early American officer presentation pieces. The blade shows honest age-related wear, with etching still visible.
