German 19th Century Hunting Cutlass Sword

This antique hunting cutlass features a heavy, single-edged steel blade with a single wide fuller. The hilt features a natural stag horn grip and a brass D-guard. The blade has minor staining and age patina. Dating to the mid-nineteenth century, this cutlass was used by Imperial German foresters and hunters. It served as a functional tool for clearing brush and dispatching game during forest expeditions. The brass guard features detailed castings of wildlife and hunting dogs. It includes a leather-covered scabbard with brass locket and chape.
