This historic Caucasian shashka features a curved, fullered steel blade. The hilt is made of silver, decorated with traditional niello floral patterns. The blade surface shows moderate pitting and age oxidation. Dating to the early twentieth century, this sword was carried by Russian Caucasian Cossack regiments. Niello silver weapons were highly prized by Cossack officers as indicators of elite military status. The silver hilt and scabbard fittings show detailed hand-engraved niello work and military marks. The sword is accompanied by its leather-covered wooden scabbard.
