This French-style sword features a straight steel blade with double fullers and floral etching. The hilt is constructed with a carved bone grip and a brass guard. The blade shows minor age discoloration. Dating to the mid-nineteenth century, this sword was assembled using a blade imported from Western & Co. in Solingen, Germany. French officers frequently purchased imported Solingen blades for their superior metallurgy. The blade is marked with the Solingen maker's mark on the ricasso. The hilt features a detailed knuckle guard and is offered without a scabbard.
