US 19th Century Model 1873 Entrenching Tool Scabbard
Original Model 1873 U.S. Army Entrenching Tool Scabbard Only – U.S. Marked
Up for sale is an original U.S. Army Model 1873 entrenching tool scabbard. This is the scabbard only, designed to house the Model 1873 combination knife/entrenching tool. A scarce and highly collectible piece of 19th-century U.S. military field gear.
Model: U.S. Army Model 1873 Entrenching Tool (scabbard only)
Markings: Clearly stamped “U.S.” on the leather
Material: Heavy leather body with reinforced stitching; brass/metal fittings (see photos)
Dimensions: Approx 8 in x 4 in
Condition: Good original antique condition; leather remains intact for its age, stitching present, some wear and patina consistent with service use. Collectors’ Note: Original scabbards for the Model 1873 entrenching tool are hard to find, as many did not survive field service. This example would make an excellent addition to a U.S. Indian Wars or Spanish-American War era collection.
