This military scabbard is constructed of heavy black leather with brass rivets and a steel belt attachment loop. The leather surface displays age-appropriate cracking and stiffness. The front of the leather is stamped with military markings. Designed for the U.S. Army Model 1873 combination entrenching tool, this scabbard was issued during the Indian Wars. The tool was critical for infantrymen digging defensive breastworks in the field. The leather body is marked with a clear US stamp in an oval border. The stitching remains intact along the edges.
