An authentic French infantry short saber, commonly referred to as a "Sabre Briquet," based on the Pattern 1801 design. The saber is characterized by its curved, single-edged steel blade and a solid, one-piece cast brass hilt with a ribbed grip and D-guard. This type of short saber was standard issue for French infantry units, artillerymen, and grenadiers during the Napoleonic Wars. The robust brass hilt served both as a weapon and a tool, designed to withstand the harsh conditions of field service. The carbon steel blade shows a dark grey patina with light pitting along the cutting edge. The solid brass guard is firmly attached, stamped with period inspection marks (poinçons) and showing a rich antique patina.
