A rare Imperial Japanese prison service official's dagger (dirk) in good antique condition. The dirk features a short, single-edged steel blade, a brass crossguard, and a wire-wrapped handle decorated with cherry blossom motifs. It is fitted with its original brass-mounted scabbard. Carried by correctional and prison officials in the Japanese Empire during World War II, this dagger is a rare civilian administration sidearm. Unlike standard military gunto swords, these dirks were reserved for civil authority ranks. The brass fittings on the hilt and scabbard show high-quality casting, depicting the traditional Japanese cherry blossom. The leather body of the scabbard remains solid, and the locking mechanism functions correctly.
