Original Spanish Toledo M1876 Artillery Short Sword

An antique Spanish military artillery short sword, Model 1876, in good collectible condition. The sword features a heavy, single-edged carbon steel blade, a cast brass hilt with a ribbed grip, and a curved brass crossguard. This short sword was standard issue for Spanish artillery crews during the late nineteenth century, including the Spanish-American War. The design is optimized for close-quarters defense and clearing obstacles around gun emplacements. The blade is marked with the Toledo royal arsenal stamp and the Model 1876 designation. The heavy brass hilt remains firmly attached to the blade tang, and the steel surface displays a smooth grey patina.
