Original Russian M1826 Pioneer Tesak Short Sword

An authentic Imperial Russian pioneer short sword, Model 1826/1830, in robust antique condition. The sword features a very heavy, wide steel blade with a sawback spine, paired with a solid cast brass hilt and crossguard with ball finials. This distinctive "Tesak" short sword was issued to engineering, pioneer, and sapper units of the Imperial Russian Army during the nineteenth century. It was designed to serve as both a defensive weapon and a heavy-duty tool for clearing brush and constructing fortifications. The spine of the blade is equipped with thick saw teeth for cutting wood. The brass guard and grip are firmly cast, showing inspectors' stamps and a natural unpolished patina, while the blade shows honest age darkening.
