An antique British Model 1822 pattern infantry officer's sword. The saber features a curved steel blade, a gilded brass gothic hilt with a folding guard section, and a wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. It is accompanied by its metal-mounted leather scabbard. This sword is a historic Victorian-era piece, with its blade manufactured in Solingen by the firm of Kirschbaum (later part of WKC) for export to the British market. The folding guard section was designed to prevent the hilt from rubbing against the officer's uniform. The hilt and folding guard are decorated with the royal cypher and retain much of their original gilding. The blade shows light surface oxidation, while the sharkskin grip and wire wrapping remain exceptionally tight.
