Original US 1890 Fraternal Cadet Short Sword

An antique fraternal or military cadet short sword dating to around 1890. The sword is designed with a straight, double-edged steel blade, a cast metal crossguard with circular finials, and a ribbed metal grip. This item is offered without a scabbard. This style of short sword was used by cadet academies and fraternal organizations in the United States during the late nineteenth century. It was modeled after historical artillery sidearms and was primarily used for parade drills and ceremonies. The steel blade shows a smooth grey patina with minor age discoloration. The metal hilt and crossguard are firmly secured to the tang, displaying minor surface oxidation consistent with its age and storage history.
