Up for sale is an authentic French Officer’s Sword (Épée), Model 1872 Pattern, complete with its original scabbard. This elegant late 19th-century officer’s sidearm is a fine representation of French military craftsmanship.
Period: Circa late 19th century (Third Republic)
Model: French Officer’s Épée, 1872 Pattern
Blade: Straight, narrow blade signed/marked ,showing light age wear and patina consistent with age.
Hilt: Brass guard with design, composite grip, and protective knuckle bow.
Scabbard: Original metal scabbard with suspension,aged patina and service wear but structurally solid.
Condition: Very good antique condition. Blade remains strong with visible signature; hilt and guard intact with age patina; scabbard complete and fitting properly.
Collectors’ Note: The French M1872 officer’s sword was carried by officers during the Third Republic and remained in ceremonial use into the early 20th century. Examples with signed blades and original scabbards are particularly desirable to collectors of European and French military antiques.
