An antique French infantry officer's Épée, Model 1872, in very good condition. The sword features a straight, triangular-section steel blade, a gilded brass guard decorated with military trophies, and a wire-wrapped grip. It is complete with its original steel scabbard. The Model 1872 Épée was the standard dress sword for officers of the French Army through the late nineteenth century and during World War I. Its lightweight, triangular blade was designed strictly for thrusting in combat or duels. The blade spine is signed by a French manufacture, showing authentic period craftsmanship. The gilded finish on the brass guard is well-preserved, and the single-ring steel scabbard retains its original shape and dark finish.
