This antique German short hunting sword features a straight, single-edged steel blade decorated with detailed engravings. The hilt is crafted with a fluted staghorn grip, an ornate brass crossguard, and a clamshell guard, complete with a brass-mounted leather sheath. Dating to the early 19th century, this hunting sword was manufactured in Solingen by the firm J.A. Henckels. It served as a status symbol for German foresters, combining artistic design with utility for dispatching game. The blade is engraved with woodland hunting scenes of stags and hounds. The ricasso bears the twins trademark of J.A. Henckels. The leather sheath features a brass throat with a frog button and a matching brass chape.
