ANTIQUE BRITISH PATTERN 1788 CAVALRY OFFICER’S SWORD

A fine example of a British Pattern 1788 Cavalry Officer’s Sword, featuring an exceptionally attractive decorated blade with etching, engraving, blueing, and gilt decoration. The blade has been well preserved and retains much of its decorative finish, making this a particularly desirable example for collectors. The sword retains its steel scabbard, showing natural age-related wear and patina consistent with an antique of this age. The steel guard, knuckle bow, and pommel remain in good condition, with no significant damage and attractive natural patina developed over time. The wooden grip is covered in leather and wrapped with twisted wire. Due to its considerable age, the leather has naturally dried and shows some areas of loss, consistent with the overall antique character of the piece. Condition: Very good overall antique condition. The blade is especially well preserved, retaining its etched, engraved, blued, and gilt decoration. The remaining components display appropriate age, wear, and natural patina.
