Offered for sale is a U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword from the American Civil War era, featuring a beautifully etched German-made blade by the renowned maker W. Clauberg, Solingen, complete with its metal scabbard. This is an outstanding example of a high-quality officer's sword manufactured in Solingen, Germany, one of the world's premier centers of sword production during the 19th century. Privately purchased imported officer's swords of this quality were widely carried by Union officers throughout the Civil War. The ricasso bears a clear Philadelphia retailer's mark, while the blade is finely etched on both sides with elegant period decoration. The sword retains exceptional eye appeal and displays beautifully. The brass hilt is richly decorated with intricate cast and engraved detail and remains exceptionally well preserved. The sharkskin grip is tightly wrapped with twisted brass wire and remains in excellent condition. The metal scabbard with brass mounts is also very well preserved and complements the sword perfectly.
